The three failures we find under Dade City homes
Root intrusion is the most common. Roots seek moisture and nutrients, and a sewer line supplies both. They enter through joints and hairline cracks, then expand until they form a dense mat that catches solids. Our climate means they grow all year rather than pausing over winter.
Deteriorated cast iron is the most consequential. Buying an older home? Camera the sewer first.
A standard home inspection does not include a sewer camera survey. Inspectors run water and confirm it drains — which tells you nothing about a line that is 80% root-filled or a cast iron lateral about to collapse.

Where the line is at end of life throughout, as failing cast iron usually is, full replacement is the honest answer, because spot repairs on a pipe that is deteriorating everywhere simply move the next failure a few feet along.
