HOW MUCH DOES A PLUMBER COST IN DADE CITY, FL?

Real 2026 price ranges for drain clogs, water heaters, repipes and emergency calls in Pasco County — plus what actually drives the number up.

Nobody enjoys calling a plumber, and the worst part is usually not the problem itself — it is not knowing whether the number you are about to hear is fair. So here are the actual ranges we quote in Dade City and across Pasco County, what sits behind them, and where people most often get overcharged.

Two things before the numbers. First, every price below assumes a licensed, insured plumber pulling permits where required. An unlicensed handyman will always be cheaper and you will find out why the first time something fails inspection or floods a wall. Second, ranges are ranges because access is the single biggest cost variable in this trade. The same repair in an open garage and inside a finished wall are not the same job.

Service Calls and Diagnostic Fees

Most plumbers in Pasco County charge a diagnostic or trip fee somewhere between $49 and $129 for a standard weekday visit. It covers getting a stocked truck to your driveway and putting eyes on the problem. Many companies, including ours, waive it or credit it toward the repair if you go ahead with the work.

After-hours, weekend and holiday calls carry a higher dispatch fee — typically $150 to $250 — because someone is getting out of bed. The honest test of a company is whether they tell you that number on the phone or spring it on you at the door.

Common Repairs: $125 to $450

This is where the majority of residential calls land. In Dade City you should expect roughly:

  • Faucet repair or cartridge replacement — $125 to $250
  • Toilet rebuild (flapper, fill valve, flush valve) — $125 to $275
  • Toilet replacement, labor only — $200 to $375
  • Garbage disposal replacement, installed with unit — $275 to $500
  • Angle stop or shut-off valve — $125 to $225
  • Standard drain clog, single fixture — $125 to $250
  • Hose bibb replacement — $150 to $300
  • Pressure regulator replacement — $350 to $600

Hard water is the reason this list is longer here than in other markets. Aquifer water in Pasco County is loaded with calcium and magnesium, and that mineral load destroys cartridges, aerators and fill valves years earlier than it would elsewhere. If you are replacing the same part every couple of years, the part is not the problem — the water is.

Drain and Sewer Work: $250 to $12,000

The spread here is enormous because "drain problem" covers everything from a hair clog to a collapsed lateral.

  • Main line clog through an existing cleanout — $250 to $450
  • Main line clog with no cleanout, pulling a toilet for access — add about $100
  • Hydro jetting with camera inspection — $400 to $700
  • Camera inspection alone — $175 to $350
  • Cleanout installation — $400 to $900
  • Sewer spot repair — $1,500 to $3,500
  • Trenchless lining — roughly $110 to $200 per foot
  • Full sewer lateral replacement — $4,000 to $12,000

If a company quotes you a sewer replacement without running a camera and showing you the footage, get a second opinion. Underground work priced off a hunch is how people end up paying five figures for a problem that a $500 jetting would have solved. Our sewer and main line page walks through when each option actually applies.

Water Heaters: $150 to $3,500

Repairs are cheap and replacements are not, which is why the repair-or-replace conversation matters so much.

  • Thermostat or heating element — $150 to $350
  • Thermocouple or gas valve — $175 to $450
  • Anode rod replacement — $175 to $350
  • Tank flush and service — $125 to $250
  • Tank replacement, 40–50 gallon installed — $1,200 to $2,200
  • Tankless descaling — $200 to $400
  • Tankless installation — $2,200 to $3,500

The rule of thumb: if the unit is under eight years old and the failure is a component, repair it. If the tank body is leaking or it is past ten years and needs something major, replace it. Because of our water, Dade City heaters routinely fail around year eight instead of the twelve you would get in a soft-water market — more on that in our hard water article.

Leaks and Repipes: $200 to $12,000

Leak detection runs $200 to $450, usually credited toward the repair. Slab leak spot repair lands between $900 and $2,200 including the concrete work. A reroute, which abandons the failed underslab line and runs new pipe overhead, typically runs $1,200 to $2,800 per line and avoids concrete entirely.

A whole-house repipe in PEX or copper runs $4,500 to $12,000 depending on square footage, number of bathrooms and how much drywall repair is involved. That number scares people, but for a home with polybutylene that has already leaked twice, it is usually cheaper than the next two repairs plus the water damage.

What Actually Drives Your Price Up

Five things, in order of impact:

  • Access. Open garage wall versus behind finished tile is often a doubling.
  • Age of the system. Cast iron and galvanized require transition fittings and careful work. Nothing unthreads cleanly on a 70-year-old line.
  • Permits and inspection. Required for heaters, repipes and sewer work in Pasco County. Legitimate cost, and skipping it creates a disclosure problem when you sell.
  • Timing. 2am on a holiday costs more than Tuesday at 10am. Not a scam — just labor economics.
  • Whether anyone diagnosed it properly. The most expensive plumbing is the repair that did not fix the actual problem.

How to Not Get Overcharged

Get it in writing before work starts, and make sure the quote lists parts and labor rather than one lump number. Ask whether the diagnostic fee is credited. Ask to see the problem — a good plumber will show you the corroded valve or the camera footage without being asked twice. For anything over about $1,500, get a second quote; any honest shop expects it.

And be suspicious of urgency that does not match the situation. A slab leak needs attention this week, not in the next twenty minutes before a discount expires.

Plumbing Cost FAQs for Dade City Homeowners

Most reputable shops here, including ours, quote flat rate by the job. You know the number before work starts instead of watching a clock. Hourly billing is still common for open-ended diagnostic work or large remodels, but for a defined repair you should be getting a fixed written price.

Ours are. We come out, diagnose the actual cause, and hand you a written price with no obligation and no charge. Some companies charge a diagnostic fee and credit it toward the repair — that is also fair, as long as they tell you before they come.

Expect $150 to $250 for nights, weekends and holidays. That is the dispatch fee only; the repair is quoted separately in writing. Any company that will not tell you the call-out fee over the phone is a company to skip.

Usually because they are not quoting the same job. One is replacing a section, the other is replacing the whole run. One included permits and drywall, the other did not. Ask both to itemize parts, labor, permits and finish work — the gap almost always explains itself.

For larger work like repipes and sewer replacements we can often phase the job so the cost spreads across a couple of budget cycles — bathrooms first, kitchen and laundry second, for example. Ask when we quote and we will lay out what can be split.
